Restaurant Week 2012

Today is the last day of Restaurant Week 2012 and I have only gotten a chance to sample the menu of Pita Grill at Orchid Village Plaza in Barbican. They are a 24 hour joint that make a wide selection of sandwiches, wraps, hamburgers, sliders, salad, various dessert items and smoothies. I had a ham sandwich and it was delicious. I will definitely be going back again. But yet there were so many more I would have loved to tried but due to my current budget that will have to wait. I hope all the restaurants that participated came out happy and see you again next year or even soon    :-)

WET Sign

After the recent passing of Sandy, after getting onto a JUTC bus it was noted that the seat close to the middle door was wet. So I proceeded to another seat. Passengers after passengers came in and sat on the wet seat and jumped up in fright. So I got tired of seeing the same action over and over again. I decided to search my bag to see what solution I could come up with. So I found some yellow post-it notes, clear tape and my pen. So on each sheet of post-it I wrote a letter to spell WET and paste it on the head rest of the seat for easy view   I thought this would solve the issue but I was so wrong. They all came and just sat down and jump up in fright while ours reach over to feel the seat if it was really wet. This bring me to think how many Jamaican do read signs. We often joke that if you want to hide something from a Jamaican put it in a book. But this got me worried ......... What will the future hold for us if we are willing to overlook the sign to guide of through s

My Hairrrrrr

It has been over three months since I have put any relaxer in my hair. This started after been told by my hair salon that my hair was very dry and was accepting the relax. So I made up my mind to grow out my hair. It has not been easy as I have no skills when in come to styling my hair. My little sister seems to have got all of the talent and with her all the way in Montego Bay while I am in Kingston. I am a totally lost case. Every morning I am struck in the house trying to put my self in the mindset that I can do this. Some many time I have thought about changing my mind. But I am holding on. People always sy if they could only go back in time. Well this is not decision I would want to change.

The Pain of The Braids

Over the weekend after getting my hair done by my sister, who has been doing it for years it just didn’t feel right. Not sure what happened but after leaving her house I could feel pain in parts of my head I didn't even knew existed. And this sent me on a crazy search for help. So I decided to share what I found with you: Instructions 1 Take a hot shower. Stay in the shower long enough for the heat to permeate the scalp, which helps to loosen the braids slightly. Tight cornrows can sometimes take up to a week before loosening on their own. Taking a hot shower each time you bathe quickens the process. 2 Use a rat-tail, or pick, comb to gently loosen the braids. Be careful with this method because if you tug at the cornrows too hard you may release parts of the hair from the braid, disrupting the style. Carefully go under the braid that is closest to the scalp and gently pull with the tail of the comb. You can get some relief using this strategy, but to keep t

A Prince Charming in the making

Today, I saw something that cause me to think that all hope isn't lost after all. They are parents out there who are teaching their young men to become "Prince Charming". About ten (10) years old was this young man that got up each time he see a lady standing in the bus. But yet I saw so many strong men sitting down or racing to get the empty seats on the bus. This young even with all his load (his heavy school bag). He choses to stand so the ladies could have a seat. And I was the only one that notice as this elderly woman notice what was going on and voluntered to hold his bag. There are so many common courtesy that we have forgotten.

What is going on??????

Every day I turn on the television or take up a newspaper , I keep on getting the greats shocks of my life. Have we become such animals that we are willing to murder, beat, killed and rape with no regard anywhere and anytime. Not caring about who sees and what impact it will have on our society. Are we really this heartless????? What the hell is going on??? Voluntarism

Image
Today, Thursday 13 of September 2012 in The Gleaner, I saw a story where the Red Cross of Jamaica is looking First Aid Volunteers. This was a surprise to me as I have contacted them on numerous of occassions and all I got was we will contact you.   Numerous of time means, calling them and they asked me to fill out a form and return it which I did, emailing them and calling them. This has been going on since 2010. So it is to my dismay and curiosity to wonder how many other persons out there are having the same experience.   Should we as individual be hunting down and riding the backs of these voluntary organizations so that we can give up our time and skills to them. I leave this with you today to consider………

Price of Bread

Image
The bible says by the sweat of me brow in Genesis 3:19 (By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return", in New International Version (1984)). But with the recent announcement The Jamaica Flours Mills of an increase in the price of flour between 10 to 14 percent. This will in turn in cause an increase in the price of bread.   Based on the current income level of many Jamaican, this will only put more pressure on the household income. So I say, yet I sweat but will I be able to eat bread.........

Bride Affair

Image
With the Kingston Bridal Week going on Sept 08-16 th ,it   has got me asking the question," Will I ever get married?" and I don't think I'm the only one asking the question. I can remember growing up and planning out every detail of that fairytale wedding. With the huge flowing princess ball gown dress and don't forget the tiara walking down the aisle where prince charming is awaiting my arrival. I could see flowers everywhere, in the roof, on the chairs, on the floor and in each and every corner. Just picturing in the church and seeing everyone staring at you in amazement as you walk slowly to the piano playing in the background. Planning out every detail (the veil, the shoes, bridesmaids dresses, the cake and etc), or maybe this was just me. During my teenage years I started collecting bridal magazines looking to find that  perfect dress for my wedding day. But now at age 27, I cannot recall when my obsession started to disappear.   I would feel so left
